Lukla – Nepal
Lukla, Nepal

The difference in height between the two ends of the 518 metre runway in Lukla, Nepal, is about 60 meters.

The landing is always uphill. A go-around is not possible, the first attempt has to be “on the nose”.

Besides Twin Otter twin-engined turboprops, Mil helicopters are also used for supply flights to Lukla.

The runway devides Lukla into two halves. If no aircraft is in sight the strip serves as playground and marketplace.
